THE oldest Cebuano college choir has been invited to sing in an international choir festival in China.
The University of San Carlos (USC) Choristers will be part of the “massed choir” during the worldwide Sing N’ Joy Choir Festival on Nov. 2 in Shunde, China.
This features several participating groups that will perform well-known traditional, folk and popular songs in a concert conducted by international conductors.
“This event is a great opportunity for the group to enhance learning and improve the skills we have. We have to work to be the best, especially since we are scholars in the school,” said Donna Bacayo, a member of the chorale, on their campaign page on Indiegogo.com.
The group has begun a fundraising campaign, “Choristers Goes to China,” for their trip.
The USC Choristers is composed of over 40 scholars of the university. The scholarship is a privilege granted by the school for students with talent in music – be it composition, singing, or mastering a musical instrument.
Although the renowned music organizer, INTERKULTUR, will provide for the group’s food and accommodation, the airfare and other necessities have to be shouldered personally by the students.
For a donation of $50, the choir will send three professionally recorded songs through e-mail. For donations over $100, the choir will serenade the benefactor with a performance, live or online, whichever the benefactor prefers.
“We want to showcase Cebuano culture, Carolinian talent and the spirit of excellence by being witnesses to the Word through music on an international scale,” added Bacayo.
The group is celebrating 50 years of sharing the gift of music.
