CEBUANOS continued to prove their worth on the national stage as their squads emerged victorious in the PLDT Home Ultera-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup 2015 late Saturday at the Sands By the Bay in SM Mall of Asia.
In the men’s division, former Nestea beach volley national champion Jade Becaldo and his partner Hachaliah Gilbuena, representing SM By the Bay, lived up to their status as the team to beat by beating Ian Conde and Karl dela Calzada of Instituto Estetico Manila, 21-17, 21-13.
Meanwhile, former University of San Jose-Recoletos standout Louijie Tipgos paired up with Marjun Alingasa to push Champion Infinity B past the Cignal HD Spikers B, composed of ex-University of Southern Philippines Foundation ace Emmanuel Luces and Jay dela Cruz, 21-15, 19-21, 15-13.
Over on the distaff side, ex-University of the Visayas star Jusabelle Brillo and Jem Gutierrez powered Meralco past Beneco, 21-11, 21-12.
In other results, the unheralded tandem of Wensh Tiu and April Ross Hingpit of Cignal HD Spikers B downed its fancied foes, Charo Soriano and Gretchen Ho of Petron XCS, 21-16, 21-13, before storming back to the sand to frustrate Tripoli Aurora and Rochet Dela Paz of Accel Quantum Plus B-Perpetual Molino, 21-12, 21-12.
Also emerging victorious were Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain of Foton Tornadoes, who clobbered Cindy Benitez and Florence May Madulid of Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco), 21-9, 21-18; Rossan Fajardo and Aileen Abuel of Philips Gold, who dominated Kim Ygay and Evangeline Pastor of Accel Quantum Plus A-Perpetual Molino, 21-12, 21-16.
Action resumes next Saturday where the quarterfinal pairings will be decided.
