The Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (CCOSAP) and the Cebu Alliance of Mass Communication Students (CAMS) launched the first Visayan Mini Movies with Values Film Festival to address the call for drug abuse prevention last Friday.
CCOSAP officer Rodolfo Reyes Jr. said the film festival is one of the activities for the upcoming Drug Awareness Month in November.
“We have tapped schools to create further awareness,” he said.
Reyes said CCOSAP already conducted a series of drug tests in two high schools in the city this month.
“We have already conducted drug tests in Talamban High School and Abellana National High School this month and the results were negative,” he said.
Reyes also said that CCOSAP is just waiting for response letters from other schools and barangays to conduct drug tests.
Moreover, CAMS founder and adviser Bien Fernandez said that Mass Communication students have undergone training in filmmaking.
“They are good performers and they are the best students to tap for a film festival like this,” he said.
“Two years ago, we helped the International Justice Mission for human trafficking and now we are helping Cebu Anti-Drug Abuse Council and CCOSAP with their campaign about drug prevention,” he said.
Cebu Normal University, University of the Philippines Cebu, St. Theresa’s College, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu Technological University, University of the Visayas, Southwestern University, Benedicto College, Cebu Eastern College, Cebu Institute of Technology University and the University of San Carlos are the participating schools of CAMS. /UP Cebu Intern Mary Claire U.
