Milo Little Olympics Regionals
Despite the change in venue, Cebu will still be sending its top teams to compete in the upcoming Visayas Regional Championships of the Milo Little Olympics to be held in Iloilo on Sept. 10 to 13.
This will be the first time that the regional meet will be held outside of Cebu, which has hosted the multi-sporting meet for the past 19 years.
Reports earlier this year surfaced that Cebu’s participation will be affected with the change of venue due to financial reasons.
But Team Visayas delegation head Ricky Ballesteros said Cebu will still be well represented in the regional meet.
“Expect the top teams from Cebu that to compete,” Ballesteros said.
Ballesteros explained that to get their money’s worth, they will be sending those athletes and teams that are known to dominate their respective events.
Among those who are expected to send their athletes for Cebu are two-time regional finals defending champion University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department, former 17-time secondary division champion University of Cebu, football powerhouse Don Bosco Technology Center and basketball favorite Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu. Also added were top volleyball contender Colegio del Santo Niño and City of Danao, which is a favorite in sepak takraw and table tennis.
The schedule will also not be a problem, according to Ballesteros.
“Cebu will be fielding in a big number of athletes since the competition will be held on a weekend,” he said. “So they can be back home before the school week starts.”
