10 Cebuanos win medals in US ‘Talent Olympics’

All Cebuano performers who participated in the 19th annual World Championship of Performing Arts (WOPCA), also known as “Talent Olympics,” won medals and an award in Long Beach, California last July 10 – 19.

Competing against rivals from 60 countries and performing before 75 judges, the 10 talented Cebuanos won 34 awards (including 10 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze medals and 1 Industry award) in singing and modeling categories.

The Cebuanos who were included in the Philippine team were Athena Ma. Denice F. Bartido, Vynne Marie Guardiana, Ronna Jenn Lofranco, Danielle May Ozaraga, Ronelia Gegawin (Apple Abarquez), Christine Marie Sanchez (Kim Sanchez), Windey Prado-Avendaño, John Lawrence Ramas, Artemis Mary Denise Bartido, and Vida Doriza Reya.

“Filipinos have always been known to be talented people but it is our will, determination, and hard work that paid off in the end,” Ozaraga said.

Jay Unchuan and Garry Baguio were the coaches of the 48 delegates who represented the Philippines and were successful in gathering around 200 medals for the country.

Ozaraga said it’s a great  honor and privilege to be part of  the Philippine delegation. “It’s always been our dream to represent our country and showcase our God-given talents especially in an international competition,” she said. /UP Cebu Intern Julienne Hazel Penserga
