Korean found dead

A KOREAN tourist was found dead in his room in a beach resort in barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.

Police said there were no signs of foul play in the death of 46-year-old Sung Hwi Kang, whose body was found in the toilet of his room.

A note, believed to have been written by Sung, was found in the room, indicating that what happened was a case of suicide, said PO1 Leo Gesim of the Dalaguete Police Station.

The Korean may have died of suffocation, police said.

Police theorized that the Korean plugged the holes in the comfort room then lighted some charcoal.

Smoke engulfed the toilet causing his suffocation, police said.

Police said Sung checked in at the Ocean Bay Beach Resort last July 15.

He was last seen alive Tuesday night grilling barbecue.

When they didn’t see the Korean the whole day  on Wednesday, the owner of the resort, a Dutch national, sought help from the police.

Accompanied by the police, the resort owner forcibly opened the Korean’s room.

According to a Korean consulate official, who went to Dalaguete yesterday, the note recovered in the room showed that Sung was hounded by love problems.

Police said the Korean had a Filipina girlfriend living in barangay Ablayan, Dalaguete.
