Calamity aid case probe to continue

The formal investigation of the administrative complaint against Cebu City officials on the P20,000-calamity aid in 2013 will resume on the last week of August or the first week of September.

Last Thursday, the last day of the first schedule of marathon investigations, the camp of complainant lawyer Reymelio Delute has already started presenting their witnesses to the hearing officer from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Delute was the first to be presented as witness to the case aside from being the complainant himself. They also presented newspaper editorials and reports about the granting of the across-the-board calamity assistance to all City Hall employees.

But City Hall lawyers questioned Delute’s presentation. Lawyer Rey Gealon, who’s representing Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said newspaper reports have not been recognized as evidence in Supreme Court jurisprudence.

The DILG has 90 days from the start of the formal investigation to resolve the case and recommend the proper action to the Office of the President.
