Househelp in trouble for stealing jewelry from employer

A female househelp is facing trial after she was accused of stealing her employer’s jewelry worth about P400,000.

The Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office found sufficient basis to indict Leonisa “Leah” Sarda on charges of qualified theft.

No bail was recommended.

Sarda, who remains at large, was given the chance to submit her counter-affidavit and other evidence to refute the allegations levelled against her.

But she did not respond to the subpoena sent to her, said Assistant City Prosecutor Aida Sanchez.

In her complaint, Catalina Ferrer, a resident of barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City, said Sarda worked with the family from Nov. 21, 2013 to March 2014.

Ferrer said she trusted Sarda since the latter was always there to assist her and she  knew where she hid her jewelry.

Sometime in March 2014, Sarda left without permission and no longer returned to work.
