PROPOSED CEBU ORDINANCE
A proposed provincial ordinance seeks to grant a 10-percent discount on real property tax to all private companies in Cebu that hire Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in at least five percent of their workforce.
Provincial Board Member Arleigh Sitoy (6th district), said he sponsored the measure to encourage employers to hire PWDs.
The ordinance aims to “instill in their minds that their disability only exists in their minds and that it should never be a hindrance to become a valuable asset, not only in their company but also, in society,” Sitoy said in the draft ordinance.
The proposed law was referred to the committee on ways and means during last Monday’s session. A public hearing is expected to follow in due time.
Sitoy is chairman of the committee on the welfare of PWDs.
The draft ordinance said the 10-percent discount on real property tax may be availed by all private companies in Cebu.
The proposed ordinance is anchored on Section 192 of the Local Government Code of the Philippines. It states that a a discount on real property tax is granted in favor of a private company five percent of whose workforce is composed of PWDs.
