THE Cebu Provincial Board is requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 to relocate or remove electric poles and trees that obstruct major roads in the province.
A resolution, authored by PB Members Miguel Antonio Magpale and Jude Thaddeus Durano-Sybico, requesting the agency to act on these “obstructions” was approved en masse during the board’s regular session yesterday.
“It has been observed that the roads and highways in some areas in the Province of Cebu are obstructed by poles and trees,” the resolution stated.
It said this is due to the continuous road expansion to cater to the growing volume of vehicles going to various component towns and cities in the province.
It said the existence of these poles and trees pose a grave risk to motorists and pedestrians passing through these roads as they are exposed to possible accidental collapses and crashes.
The provincial legislature requested DPWH-7 to take immediate steps to relocate or remove them.
Magpale heads the PB committee on planning and development.
The resolution was approved after the recent deaths of 13-year-old Ralph Bureros and 54-year-old Irene Bordon who were killed in separate incidents involving toppled PLDT posts in Cebu City.
The posts were properly positioned but they were pulled down when passing trucks snagged low-lying wires attached to the poles.
