With the onset of the rainy season, health officials reported a rise in dengue cases midway through the year in Cebu City.
A total of 384 dengue cases were reported from January to June, about the same volume of cases for the entire 2014, said the Cebu City Health Department (CHD).
Two victims died in the first half of the year—one from barangay Bulacao and one from barangay Luz from January to June, said Dr. Daisy Villa, CHD chief.
Last year, there were 387 reported dengue cases.
In June this year, 24 cases alone were handled by the Cebu City Medical Center, said Rey Cris Panugaling, chief for administration.
Villa reminded the public to immediately see a doctor if family members experience persistent fever, body weakness and stomach ache, which could be symptoms of dengue.
