Defending juniors champ SHS-AdC starts bid

5 p.m.: SHS-AdC vs USPF (Jrs.)
6:30 pm: USPF vs UC

The two-time defending juniors division champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles kick off their campaign for a third straight crown today when they tangle with the always-dangerous University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Baby Panthers in the 15th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament over at the Cebu Coliseum.

Even with the absence of star forward Joshua Sinclair who was declared ineligible before the start of the season, the Magis Eagles are still considered to be a formidable force with a squad teeming with incredible depth and talent.

Expected to step up are Batang Gilas guard Jed Colonia, Andrew Velasco, Travis Mantua, Benedict Chua and new recruit, Errol Pastor, a native of Cadiz City who once starred for Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

But USP-F will be no pushovers as last year’s third-place winners will be going hard at the Magis Eagles with a rookie-laden squad led by wingman Ain Obenza.

In the seniors’ division, the USP-F Panthers finally make their Cesafi comeback after a one-year absence in a match against the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.

The Webmasters will be itching to barge into the win column after failing to do so in their first game last Saturday, where they got blasted by the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 68-85.
