Blazers win with help of Grey’s 29

A ray of sunlight was provided to the St. Benilde Blazers by Jonathan Grey who came off the bench and scored 29 points to lead his team to an 88-66 rout of the San Sebastian Stags in the 91st NCAA men’s basketball tournament over at the Arena in San Juan.

The win, the Blazers’ second in seven outings, was a much-needed one for St. Benilde and was made possible by the combined efforts of Grey and Fons Saavedra who also had a splendid game of 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Still, it was Grey who set the tone early as he scored 20 markers in the first half to pace the Blazers to a 43-30 lead.

Grey also did a little bit of everything as he also had eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Stags tried to come back in the fourth and trimmed the deficit to 13 with nine minutes remaining but the Blazers’ offense turned on once again to propel them to the win.

Bradwyn Guinto unloaded 16 points for the Stags who lost for the sixth time in seven matches this season.
