CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama is known to be particular about what he wears in the public eye.
He favors green, his campaign color, and won’t wear a blue-yellow combination, if he can help it because that’s the signature hues of his political rival, Tomas Osmeña.
In the opening ceremony of the Palarong Pambansa in May 2014 in sta. Cruz, Laguna province, Mayor Rama refused to wear the outfit prepared for him that was the same as the uniforms of Central Visayas youth athletes at the event.
“Di ko ana kay BO-PK na,” he told an official of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA).
BO-PK stands for Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan.
Rama was supposed to wear a jacket and jogging pants whose dominant colors were yellow and blue.
The mayor instead chose to wear a sweat shirt issued to CVIRAA officials.
It had yellow sleeves with an orange strip on the left side with a green outline.
The host sports official was dismayed by the change of outfit. “He should have avoiding putting political color in this activity. This is sports. Politics has nothing to do with this,” said the official.
