Nationwide census of population set

PSA asks public to cooperate with enumerators on Aug. 10

The Philippine Statistics Office (PSA ) will simultaneously hold a census of population nationwide on Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The census will provide update on the Philippine population, said Noel Rafols, PSA Central Visayas information officer.

Rafols encouraged the residents to cooperate with the census enumerators. He also reminded them not to fall victims to fake enumerators.

“Census enumerators will visit households to conduct an interview. They wear PSA IDs, caps, t-shirts and carry population census supplies and questionnaires,” Rafols said.

As of last week, out of the 900 enumerators for Cebu City, they were only able to hire around 500.

About 8,000 field personnel are needed during the survey on Aug. 10, including area supervisors, group team supervisors and enumerators.

Statistical Operation Coordination Division head Aurelia Canda said that while hiring of enumerators is still pending, PSA hopes an increase of 800 enumerators for Central Visayas this week.

Census enumerators should be at least second year college and have undergone a five-day training with the PSA.

Starting at 8 a.m., enumerators will visit the different households to conduct an interview.

The involvement of local government units (LGUs) is sought for easy access to households.

Rafols said that in the past census, barangay officials escorted census enumerators who were not familiar with the area.

The enumeration is expected to be completed  on the second week of September.

The population census 2015 serves as a basis for the government to implement projects and policies.

The LGUs also use the data and information gathered in the census as their basis in the filing of ordinance. /Palompon Institute of Technology Intern Bianca Genosa
