Hundreds of  residents and visitors came out and witnessed the street dancing participated by five contingents to highlight the 3rd Dinagat Festival in Cordova town yesterday.

The street dancing started at the Day-as wharf and ended with all five contingents performing in a dance showdown at the Cordova municipal sports center.

Cordova Vice Mayor Teche Sitoy-Cho led a cultural Dinagat special dance presentation given by fisherfolk wearing a black and silver costume.

All contingents wore costumes that adopted a coastal, marine theme in keeping with the festival which is held to celebrate the town’s patron saint Sr. San Roque.

In 2006, Cordova sponsored the Bakasi (eel) Festival as part of their fiesta celebration.

They changed the festival name in 2013 to Dinagat Festival to include the town’s other marine resources.

“Every year the Dinagat Festival gets bigger, that is why we had this street dancing so that others who won’t be able to come to the complex may see it,” the vice mayor said.

Pilipog Elementary School later won the top honor in the dance showdown with P50,000 cash prize, followed by Cordova Catholic Co-op School which won P40,000.

Cordova National High School won the P15,000 cash prize in the street dancing  event followed by the Cordova Catholic Co-op School at 2nd place with a cash prize of P10,000 and Pilipog Elementary School which won the P5,000 3rd place cash prize.
