A Lapu-Lapu City Council committee will investigate last Sunday’s collision between a jetski and a motor banca off the seawater of barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.
The jetski driver, a tourist from Oroquieta City, died.
A city ordinance regulates the use of recreational sports activities.
Speed limits are set for jetskis and speed boats that pass a swimming area.
City Councilor Alexander Gestopa, chairman of the committee on environment, will lead the inquiry that will look into the role and responsibility of the establishment that owns the jetski.
In the city ordinance, jet skis must only pass at designated exit and entrance areas—to and from the deep sea where they are then allowed to sail.
An amicable settlement was reached last Sunday.
Doyle Ompad, 33, of barangay Sta. Rosa, Olango Island, who was captain of the boat that collided with the jetski, was released from detention after he and the victim’s widow Alona Entia, reached an agreement over the death of her husband Dan, 55.
The husband and wife were riding a jetski heading out to sea when it collided with the banca.
Dan was thrown off the jetski and hit his head on the side of the banca. He was rushed to the hospital but didn’t make it alive.
Police said the couple, who are from Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental, were on vacation in Cebu when the accident happened.
Ferdie Balao, the jetski service owner and proprietor of Serena Watersports in barangay Maribago, also gave financial assistance to the victims.
