The Cebu City Council called on the Division for the Urban Poor (DWUP) and the City Engineering Office to prepare a program of works for a medium-rise building that can house the fire victims of sitio Palma River Side of baranagay San Roque.
Cebu City Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr. said nearly half of the 120 persons who were displaced by last year’s fire still live in tents in sitio Palma.
“DWUP should consult with the barangay officials of San Roque and affected residents of sitio Palma River Side to realize a win-win solution on this problem,” Councilor Alvin Dizon said in yesterday’s council session.
Councilor Sisinio Andales asked DWUP why only 72 families managed to rebuild their homes in the reblocked site.
Barangay councilwoman Leonarda Pepito said former barangay chairman Liodore Miranda changed DWUP’s list of beneficiaries.
Pepito, one of the fire victims, said the families who were given lots to rebuild were not actual residents of sitio Palma.
