Two malls in Cebu are being studied as potential sites for voting precincts in next year’s election.
These are Robinsons and SM City Cebu, said Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Castillano in yesterday’s 888 News Forum.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office still has to receive word from its central office about the proposal.
He said an agreement still has to be worked out with the management of the malls.
“It can happen. This should also be jurisdictional. Only voters who live in barangays where the malls are located are allowed to vote there. At least three precincts can be housed in the mall,” Castellano said.
Castillano said a survey about this done by the Comelec through its website received positive feedback.
Castillano also reminded Cebuanos to visit their office before October 31 to have their biometric data captured.
Registered voters can’t vote in next year’s elections without this.
Voter’s photographs, fingerprints, and signature will be captured electronically as biometric data.
At present, there are still 120,000 Cebuano voters who still need to provide their complete biometric data.
