A Cebu Normal University student, who is also the guidance counselor of Holy Name University in Tagbilaran, topped the 2015 Guidance Counselor Licensure examinations.
Karina Mae Uy, 25 of Tagbilaran City placed first with a 89.45 percent rating to top 419 students who took the Guidance Counselor Licensure exams last August 5 and 6.
Results released on Monday by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed that 252 out of 419 students passed the exams.
“I was at the church and about to go home when my professors at school texted me that I topped the exam,” said Uy.
Elated, she went to the family’s car and cried with her father, thanking God for the news.
“I didn’t believe it until I saw my name in the licensure exam results in the Internet,” she said.
There were six subjects in the exams “but I was able to answer them. I was very confident except for one subject,” Uy said, referring to Philosophy and Sociology.
Uy said her family is her inspiration, and this result was her way of giving back to them for all the sacrifices they made for her and her brother.
She was also grateful to CNU for helping her review.
“They gave me the right materials to study,” she said.
Uy said that she had to take a leave from work for a month to focus on her review.
“I reviewed and had a lot of prayers,” Uy said.
“Basically, time management was a challenge for me,” she added.
Review way ahead of time to get a higher score, she advised other students. And remember to pray and have faith in God.
As for plans ahead, Uy said she will continue to work in Holy Name Tagbilaran University.
“They molded me here. They made me who I am today so I am going to stay here and continue working,” she said./Jay-Illeen Engalla Palompon Institute of Technology Intern
