A female lawyer was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men along C. Ouano St in barangay Looc, Mandaue City at 6:51 p.m., Thursday.
Lawyer Amelie Alegre, 35 years old, who was driving her BMW died on the spot after she sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body. Her associate in the law firm, lawyer Briccio Joseph Boholst, who was seated at the backseat was also hit in the right leg, while a staffer, seated at the passenger seat, identified as Antonio Pino, was hit in the abdomen.
Boholst, former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines’ Cebu City Chapter and former Mandaue City administrator and Pino are both recuperating at the University of Cebu Medical Center.
Alegre’s mother Marieta rushed to the crime scene immediately after learning about what happened to her lone daughter. In an interview, Marieta revealed that her 35-year-old daughter confided that she’s been receiving death threats from her husband, Ryan Alegre, a businessman.
Ryan and Amelie were sweethearts at the University of San Carlos. They decided to get married in 2004. But their relationship turned sour four years after.
Her husband eventually filed a petition to annul their marriage in court.
Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el, Mandaue City Police Office chief, said they are securing the testimonies of witnesses and will try to review the footage of the CCTV installed near a traffic light located 100 meters away from the crime scene.
“We couldn’t give any conclusions for now,” Natuel said. But the police official said they will invite Amelie’s husband for questioning.
