The Huang family opened the Metro Cebu Kidney Dialysis Center on V. Rama Avenue, barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Brian Philip Huang, president and chief executive officer, said  the idea of putting up the center came out last year, but they still need to look for a nephrologist.

“A good dialysis center could not grow without a medical director. That is why we were fortunate to be able to partner up with our current medical director Dr. Karen Licuanan,” said Huang.

Huang said there is a growing demand for dialysis centers in Cebu, and not all hospitals or free-standing clinics can accommodate all patients.

Their dialysis treatment costs P2,700.

The family also accepts patients with Philhealth coverage, and those referred to by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other health care insurance providers.

The clinic which had its soft-opening in June this year, is capable of accommodating three treatments a day per machine. With 15 machines, the clinic could now accommodate 45 treatments per day.

The dialysis center is intended for patients who are ambulatory or able to walk on their own.

“Free-standing clinic is a better option for those patients who are eligible, meaning, those who are still stable,” Huang said. /Palompon Institute of Technology Intern Bianca Genosa
