Davide report reset; Cebu mayors expect patrol jeep turnover

CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III will report on the state of the province on Wednesday, instead of Monday as originally planned.

The schedule was reset so that he and Cebu town mayors can go to Laguna province for the turnover of new police patrol jeeps for each of the 44 towns.

The ceremony to be led by former Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II will be held at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna , said Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Cebu.

Ethel Natera, Cebu province public information officer, confirmed that Governor Davide has reset his State of the Province Address (SOPA).

But the reason she gave in a text blast was that Davide and the mayors have been called to an urgent meeting in Malacanang on Monday.

Diamante said that they will all be going to Calamba in the Southern Tagalog region for the turnover of the patrol jeeps on Monday.

All town mayors in Cebu have been informed, he said.

He said he has arranged with Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino for a coaster to pick up the mayors at the airport and bring them all to Laguna.

Each of the 44 municipalities of Cebu will get a new patrol jeep, regardless of the mayor’s political camp, he said.

Roxas, who is running for president, announced during the LMP convention last year the plan of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to purchase patrol jeeps for 1,490 municipalities nationwide.

“The distribution is long overdue,” Diamante said.

“This is a big help because many towns don’t have patrol vehicles. If they have units, the vehicles are very old,” he said in Cebuano.

Some towns, like Tuburan, have also been selected to receive new air-conditioned fire trucks, with modern fire fighting equipment.

The new fire truck assigned to Tuburan, which will arrive next week, will also serve the towns of Tabuelan and Asturias, Diamante said.

Fire trucks for other strategically located towns will follow, he added.
