They were still recovering from a successful stint in Catbalogan City in Samar and still, Kenyans Abraham Kilimo and Patroba Kemboi had enough energy to win another race the following day.
Both Manila-based Kenyans topped the Catbalogan City Half-Marathon last Saturday then went on to win again yesterday by ruling the Talisay City Marathon II, whose grueling course traversed Talisay City’s mountain barangays.
Kilimo finished the 42-kilometer race in two hours, 57 minutes and 40 seconds to win the men’s title while Kemboi topped the distaff side with a time of 4:14.30.
Fellow Kenyan Stanley Teimet trailed Kilimo at second place with a time of 3:00.46 followed by local runner Albert Omboa at third, clocking 3:16.16.
All Women’s Ultramarathon former champion Sandra Sollano settled for second after Kemboi, crossing the finish line in 4:27.20 while another veteran ultramarathoner Preciosa Sanchez rounded off the top three in the division with a time of 4:36.30.
Sultan Kudarat’s Ruffa Sorongon recorded her 14th victory in local footraces this year after she topped the 21k division with a time of 1:44.21 while Kenyan Joseph Mururi joined her at the top of the podium after dominating the 21k men’s race with a time of 1:20.36.
In the 10k division, another Kenyan emerged the winner as Elliud Lelei clocked 35:35 to take the men’s crown. Twelve-year-old Michelle Beboso topped the distaff side (48:45).
Chobie Dueñas and Keisha Mae Delechos ruled the 5k race with the times of 18:20 and 23:51, respectively.
