Back from week-long furlough, USC Warriors up against CIT-U Wildcats

TIME FOR BATTLE

Games today:
Cebu Coliseum
5:00 p.m. – UV vs UC (Jrs.)
6:30 p.m. – USC vs CIT-U (Srs.)

The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors will try to shake off the rust from a week-long layoff when they tackle the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats today in the 15th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Warriors last played on Aug. 9 when they routed the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Panthers, 88-64, for their second win in a row.

Cameroonian powerhouse Shooster Olago will once again try to ignite the Warriors’ attack on both ends of the floor and duplicate his feat against the Panthers, where he scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to spark the team’s turnaround from a sluggish start that saw them trail by as many as 10.

The Wildcats, though, are hoping to use the momentum they gained from their 92-87 overtime victory over the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in their fight against the Warriors.

Joshua dela Cerna will once again be the main man today especially after torching the Webmasters for 35 point and 11 rebounds to lead his team to their first victory in four games. Allan Dimco will also be a marked man after scoring 18 points last time out.

Meanwhile, the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and the UC Baby Webmasters will slug it out today in the juniors division.

UV, last year’s runners-up, is looking to spark what has been a fledgling campaign against a resurgent UC squad.

The Baby Lancers, despite getting 31 from Jancork Cabahug, lost to the reigning champions Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, 64-73, last Saturday. UC, on the other hand, had a victorious weekend after it destroyed the CIT-U Wildkittens, 83-64, behind the 26 points and 15 rebounds of Froiland Mangubat.
