The girls high school volleyball squad of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) reclaimed the throne they lost last year as they bested the Southwestern University (SWU) Baby Cobras, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23, to win the title in the Cebu leg of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Season 13 held over the weekend at the Cebu City Sports Institute.
The victory was redemption for USJ-R, which lost the title to the University of San Carlos (USC) in the finals of last year’s tournament.
The victory was made even sweeter by USJ-R’s 23-25, 26-24, 25-15 win over USC in the semifinals, which placed them in the championship round.
SWU, on the other hand, dispatched the Don Gerardo Ouano National High School to take the other finals ticket.
USJ-R will represent Cebu in the prestigious League of Champions, which will be staged later this year.
