Punta Princessa boxfest tonight

Joey Canoy Singwangcha takes on a last-minute replacement for the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) minimumweight title tonight at the Punta Princessa Gymnasium in Cebu City.

Canoy Singwangcha (9W-1L-1D, 3 Kos) will battle journeyman Rodel Tejares (20W-34L-6D,5KOs) in the main event of the fight card promoted by Naris Singwangcha of Thailand and Rex “Wakee” Salud Sports Pomotions in cooperation with barangay Captain Jose F. Navarro.

Canoy Singwangcha was supposed to face former tormentor Jerry Tomogdan but the latter was pulled out from the card after suffering dengue fever.

Tomogdan dealt Canoy Singwangcha his first loss via a majority decision last January in Cagayan de Oro City.

Though not the original choice, Tejares could not be taken lightly as he has already fought a few world champions such as Merlito Sabillo and Thai Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.
Canoy and Tejares tipped the scales at 103lbs and 104.5lbs, respectively, in yesterday’s weigh-in.

Also set to see action is undefeated prospect Ardie Boyose Singwangcha (15-0-2,11KOs), who will lock horns with Phil Angcamor (13-23-3,7KOs) for a 10-rounder showdown.

The boxing extravaganza will have six undercard bouts starting at 7 p.m.
