Binay upbeat on Cebu’s support

VICE President Jejomar Binay dropped by Cebu again yesterday, accompanied by his daughter Sen. Nancy Binay and prospective candidates for his Senate lineup in next year’s elections.

After a press conference at the Waterfront Mactan Hotel and Casino in Lapu-Lapu City, the vice president went to barangay Punta Engaño for a “boodle fight” or communal meal with city residents, led by mayoral aspirant Angel Rodriguez.

Later in the afternoon, the vice president visited barangays Luz, Lahug, Camputhaw, Calamba, Labangon, Alaska Mambaling, Duljo-Fatima and Sawang Calero as well as the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

Though Cebu voted for former senator Manuel “ Mar” Roxas II as vice president, Binay said he was confident that he will reel in more votes in next year’s elections with the help of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.

“(In surveys), at least better than my performance in 2010. It’s not that I’m confident. I’m optimistic that I’m performing better,” he told reporters. Binay said his camp expected fewer votes for him in Cebu in the 2010 elections.

Aside from Sen. Binay, the vice president was also accompanied by Sulu Sultanate Princess Jacel Kiram and celebrity Wynwyn Marquez, daughter of Alma Moreno. Kiram and Moreno are both rumored to be part of Binay’s senatorial lineup.
