The vaunted Banilad Shuttlers emerged the top team in the 2015 Freedom Badminton Cup held over the weekend at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The well-known Banilad smashers of coach Eddie Estoconing, won five titles to rule the tournament organized by the White Feathers Badminton Club in cooperation with Cebu City Sports Center and the Cebu City Government.
In the 11-Under boys’ category, Banilad’s Allen Penute and Shandyl Kyl Segundine beat Danao Central Elementary School, 21-12, 21-14, to win the crown. The pair also won the 13-Under title against their opponents from Southwestern University (SWU), 19-21, 21-14, 21-14.
In the 13-U girls’ category, Zinah Bejasa and Karyll Rio of Banilad routed Chelsea Akiatan and Yessa Villahermosa, 21-11, 21-9, for the title.
In level D, James Ryan Villarante and Carl Bernard Bejasa won the title after defeating the Bergantin brothers of Patt’s Badminton Club, 18-21, 21-13, 22-20.
Laville Laborte and Jazmin Benemerito, meanwhile, thwarted Mitchie Montalbo and Andrea Flores of the University of San Carlos (USC), 21-11, 21-9, to win the girls’ level D title.
