SEN. Juan Ponce Enrile returned to the Senate yesterday afternoon after being in detention for more than a year over the pork barrel scam.

Enrile went straight to his office when he arrived around 2 p.m.

“I’m not excited. I’m just going to work,” he told reporters before attending the regular session of the chamber. Enrile’s answers to queries of reporters were notably short as he refused to talk about his case, and comment on various criticisms on the temporary freedom granted to him by the Supreme Court.

Asked why he chose to go to the Senate given his health condition, the senator said: “Well, it’s my duty to come here…”

“Alam nyo, I will perform my duty for as long as I have an ounce of energy,” he added.

Asked if he missed his work in the Senate, Enrile simply said: “E busy ako e.”

“Nag-aaral. Lahat ng bagay sa mundo, kulang ang kaalaman ko kaya nag-aaral ako.”

Asked again what he was mostly looking forward to in the Senate, the senator said “nothing.”

He repeated his answer when reporters asked him again what could be expected from him now that he’s back.

Enrile was also evasive when asked if he would support any candidate in the upcoming presidential elections.

“Ano yun? Hindi na ako pulitiko e,” Enrile said.

And when asked if there are people who have sought his endorsement in next year’s elections, the senator said he could no longer recall.

On whether he had any ill-feeling towards President Benigno Aquino III, Enrile said: “Lahat ng tao sa mundo kaibigan ko.”
