The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars put up a dominating performance on their home floor as they blasted the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) White Stallions at the start of the collegiate action of the Cebu Schools Athletic Federation Inc. (Cesafi) volleyball tournament yesterday at the USJ-R Gym.
Getting a solid effort from Tovya Kaiko Galeon, the Lady Jaguars dominated from the get go to seal a 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 victory.
The Lady Jaguars will try to make it two in a row when they play the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors today.
In the high school division, the defending champions Baby Warriors started their semifinal campaign with an easy 25-12, 25-15 triumph over the Don Bosco Baby Greywolves.
On the other hand, the Baby Jaguars exacted sweet revenge against University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Baby Panthers via a 21-25, 25-17, 25-23 decision.
The Baby Jaguars, who lost to the same USP-F squad last week, had a sloppy start and fell into a maze of errors.
But the wards of coach Roldan Putot regrouped and started to seize control midway through the third set.
In the girls division, USJ-R clobbered the Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras 22-25, 25-21, 25-20 to remain unbeaten in the tournament. SWU suffered its first setback after it started the tournament with three straight wins.
Also scoring a win were the Lady Panthers, who clipped the Ateneo de Cebu Lady Eagles, 25-18, 9-25, 25-19.
In the boys division, USPF takes on USC while USJ-R try to sustain the momentum when it tackles Don Bosco Greywolves in the second game.
In the girls division, USC battles winless CEC, while SWU looks to remain unbeaten against USP-F.
In the women’s division, the defending champions Lady Cobras kick off their title-retention bid when they collide with the USP-F Lady Panthers.
Also set to do battle are the USC Lady Warriors and the USJ-R Lady Jaguars.
