The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) remained the top school in the collegiate division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) football tournament after two of the top three schools in the division failed to clinch wins yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The second-ranked University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters only earned one point yesterday after settling for a scoreless draw against the winless defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.

The University of the Visayas, which is at third place in the standings, also failed to defeat last year’s runner-up University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Panthers and forged another scoreless draw.

Both UC and UV each earned a single point for the draws and, thus, improved their scores to four points, trailing USJ-R, which has six points after winning two straight matches.

USC is at the bottom of the rankings with a single point together with USP-F.

In the secondary division, defending champions, Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves was humbled by last year’s runner-up Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles, 1-0.

DBTC suffered an own goal in the 30th minute after its defender accidentally deflected Joshua Shield’s attempt to the Greywolves’ goal.
