The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters emerged champions anew in the secondary and tertiary competition of the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) table tennis tournament held at the Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Canduman, Mandaue City over the weekend.
The vaunted Webmasters defeated the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the team event, 3-0. Val Stephan Jaca toppled teammate Dannel Jay Tormis, 3-2, to bag the men’s singles crown while Jerny Kaye Pepito also beat fellow Webmaster Diana Oliverio, 3-1, to top the distaff side of the singles competition.
UC’s women’s team is manned by Oliverio, Lezlie Agbon, Athena Comaingking, Cheska Irish Ozoa, Pepito and Jeramae Saromines while the men’s team is composed of Jan Vincent Cabaluna, Lemuel Agbon, Fausto Zeus Comaingking, Jaca and Tormis.
UC’s secondary divisions’ girls and boys squads also topped the singles and team events.
Meanwhile, the USC women’s squad was stripped of its silver medal after tournament manager Gerard Caballes learned that some of the team’s players were not eligible to play in the tournament. Second place instead went to the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U).
