PB backs Mega Cebu road map

THE Provincial Board (PB) approved a resolution supporting the Mega Cebu road map study for sustainable urban development in Metro Cebu.

The resolution, authored by PB member Christopher Baricuatro, was approved on mass motion during the board’s regular session last Monday.

Baricuatro said the resolution came after extensive consultations with representatives of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), who presented the study to the PB last July and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).

The PB deferred the move to pass the resolution during that time until its members were enlightened on the study’s scope. PB Member Alex Binghay then questioned why the study excludes 38 component towns and cities.

But RAFI representatives said the study will be updated to include the rest of the province in the future.

The concerned agencies were unable to meet immediately so the approval of the resolution had to be deferred the second time.

The Mega Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB), which formulated Mega Cebu, is chaired by Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III while RAFI facilitates the program.

The Mega Cebu road map study for sustainable urban development in Metro Cebu covers local government units from Carcar City to Danao City, including Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova.

The study also identified 10 flagship projects to be immediately acted on for implementation from 2015 to 2017, and targeted for completion by 2020.
