The 10 families whose homes will be affected by the construction of the first phase of the new Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) asked the city government to pay them P10,000 in disturbance fee.
A portion of the houses located at the back of the project site will have to be taken down since the contractor will demolish the perimeter wall to give way for the equipment.
The residents asked that the city government implements a 1.5-meter setback rather than demolish their homes.
“We are not against leaving the area. It’s okay for me rather than being gone permanently. So long as the city government promises that we can return. They said it’s temporary,” said 44-year-old Amy Gonzales, a mother of five children and one of the affected homeowners.
Engr. Jose Marie Poblete, Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), said the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) will have to look into their request.
