TWO brothers were buried under rocks and mud when the riprap of a private subdivision collapsed on their house in the upland barangay of Tawason in Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.
Rescuers found Vladimir Cariquitan, 19, but his left leg remained buried as of 9:30 p.m. yesterday.
His younger brother Vicente, 13, remained missing.
P01 Cyrus Buot, desk officer of Canduman Police Station, said the boys’ father Vicente Sr. related that the boys were sleeping inside their house in sitio Kanghang-at, barangay Tawason, when the riprap collapsed at about 4 p.m. yesterday.
He said the heavy downpour yesterday afternoon may have caused the riprap to collapse.
The Cariquitan house is located below the riprap. Buot said about 90 percent of the house was buried.
A team from the city disaster risk reduction and management office, police, barangay tanods and other rescuers rushed to the site. Rescue operations were ongoing as of press time.
