Mayor Rama back from Indonesia confab

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama is back after a weeklong conference in Wakatobi, Indonesia where he told delegates about the city’s experience in revitalization and sustainability.

He said he  showcased Cebu city efforts in environmental conservation and recycling.

“I featured Cenro’s (City Environment and Natural Resources Office) plastic conversion project, and how our open lots in the city became an eco-park for  the public,” said Rama.

He said organizers  shouldered the trip’s expenses.

Rama was invited to the conference on Local Government Voices Towards Habitat III and the meeting of the Executive Bureau and Council Meetings of the Asia-Pacific United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).

“They invited me on behalf of our city to impart my knowledge on making Cebu a city geared toward sustainability,” Rama said.

Asked yesterday about  rumors that Catbalogan Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan accompanied him on his trip abroad, Rama merely said this travel was an official business trip.

The two mayors have been romantically linked since last year with Rama frequently visiting her in Manila or her hometown, but both avoid talking about their relationship in public.

The Executive Bureau and Council Meeting serves as a guideline for the 54 member cities to follow in order to achieve sustainable urban development.

The EB Meeting became the basis for the Wakatobi Declaration, a joint commitment for the  establishment of a low-carbon society, good governance and sustainable urban development.
