THE  Cebu Provincial Board (PB) is requesting President Benigno Aquino III to sign into law the House bill creating the 7th legislative district in southwest Cebu  at the soonest possible time.

Doing so would  ensure the Cebuanos can vote next year for three new positions – a congressman and two members of the Provincial Board, whose  positions are  created under House Bill No. 4427.

The resolution was approved on mass motion.

There’s barely a month to go before the deadline for filing certificates of candidacy, said the sponsor PB Member Christopher Baricuatro.

October 15 is the last day for filing of certificates of candidacy.

The Senate approved the bill last July 28 and sent it back to the Lower House for transmission to the President.

Malacañang received the bill on August 28, setting the 30-day grace period for the President to sign it.
Even if he doesn’t sign it, the bill  would automatically become a law  after a month.

But Baricuatro said he is confident that  President will sign the bill within this week. He said Aquino met with some LP members last week and assured he will sign the bill once he gets his hands on it.

Mayors of  Cebu’s 2nd district in south Cebu have asked municpal councils  to adopt similar resolutions.
Baricuatro is seeking reelection for a seat in the PB representing the 2nd district.

Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said Baricuatro’s running mate would be Jerome Librando, son of former Badian mayor Carmen Librando, under the Liberal Party (LP).
