Samsam hurt, but still backs Davide-Magpale

EVEN after Gov. Hilario Davide III denied the appointment of Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas as the leader of the Liberal Party in the first district of Cebu, the young legislator will still support the governor and his running mate Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale in the 2016 elections.

This was announced yesterday by former congressman Eduardo Gullas during the 888 News Forum at Marco Polo Hotel.

Gullas said his grandson was hurt by Davide’s denial but instead of hitting back, he will support them.
The older Gullas also explained that Samsam did not ask for LP’s endorsement but it was LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas who said that he will be the party’s congressional bet for the first district.

A year ago, Samsam with other four mayors in the first district passed a resolution supporting Roxas before he was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as LP’s standard-bearer.

Gullas also clarified that their local party is Alayon and its national party is the Nacionalista Party (NP) which coalesced with LP in early 2012.

Gullas also suggested to Samsam to have a long list of mayoral candidates through consultations among barangay leaders.

Among the names in the list are lawyer Kristine Chiong, daughter of City of Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong who is on his last term and Caroline Bacaltos, the wife of incumbent Sibonga mayor Lionel Bacaltos.  Lionel is also on his last term.

Minglanilla Mayor Elanito “Leni” Peña and Carcar City Mayor Nicepura Apura are also in the list.
Gullas admitted that during their consultations and meetings, he was asked to run for mayor of Talisay City.

“We will have our final list soon and most of them are incumbent,” Gullas said, referring to his slate.
