Barangays to get P30M to upgrade evac centers

ABOUT P30 million will be allocated by the Cebu City government to fund improvements in evacuation centers of 21 of its barangays.

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said the allocation is based on the programs of works and estimates from each barangay submitted within the year. The other 59 barangays will be covered by next year’s budget.

Tumulak, who chairs the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC), said the evacuation centers may be either the barangay hall or sports complex of each barangay.

Recipient barangays consist of Basak Pardo, Sudlon 2, Basak San Nicolas, Tisa, Mambaling, Guadalupe, Punta Princesa, Quiot, Kinasang-an Pardo, Lahug, Talamban, Sambag2, Luz, Pahina San Nicolas, Banilad, Labangon, Cogon Pardo, Duljo Fatima, Suba, Pasil and Sawang Calero.

Tumulak was scheduled to meet with 21 barangay chairpersons yesterday to discuss the plans for their evacuation center. “Cebu City should be disaster resilient. That’s our aim,” he said.

He said P1 million will be allocated to each of the city’s 80 barangays to purchase rescue equipment.

Tumulak said every barangay should be able to identify the most serious problems they face so they can buy the equipment they need.
