More than a thousand Boholanos have been given a head start with their careers after they graduated from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda)
The 1,033 graduates under the Tesda Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) were recognized in a ceremony last Sept. 8 in Tagbilaran City with Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva in attendance.
The graduates received kits to help them jump-start their careers, particularly by setting up their own small entrepreneurial activity.
“It gives students the advantage of having the skills and a certificate when they plunge into the world of work,” Villanueva said.
“Technical vocational training allows aspiring individuals to quickly enter the workforce with hands-on training and a work-focused curriculum,” he added.
Villanueva said the agency will continue working with schools and local government units to make the scholarship programs readily available to those interested in acquiring skills.
The Tesda in Bohol offers courses, such as shielded metal arc welding, food and beverage services, bartending, housekeeping, cookery, electrical installation and maintenance, computer hardware servicing, finishing course for call center agents, bread and pastry production and security services.
