Commuters heading to south  Cebu City are advised to plan their trips ahead to avoid traffic congestion.

Several  streets in downtown Cebu City will be closed for the Tisa Siomai Festival starting today until Sept. 23.

“Commuters should expect heavy traffic in the south because there are festivities on the road that can cause traffic,” said Jonathan Tumulak, Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) operations chief.

A 5 a.m. procession will kick off the festival  from the Carmelite Monastery to the San Carlos Seminary College.

Road closures from Tomlyn’s Compound to Katipunan Street up to Petron Station F Llamas  will be in effect from 5 a.m to 10  a.m.

A road closure in these  areas will be enforced from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. the next day for a  street party.

Tumulak said motorists should head to San Jose Street passing F. Lamas Street then to Katipunan Street and vice versa.

Tomorrow, the areas starting at Alta Vista passing Aznar Road, Sabellano Street, dela Victoria Street, south road passing in front of Pardo Church and upper J. Tabura Street will be closed for the fiesta celebration in Cogon Pardo.

“Those heading south, they should head to the South Road Properties (SRP) out to Lawaan Talisay and from South Lawaan, Talisay Mambaling then downtown,” Tumulak said.

On Sept. 20, Colon and Junquera Streets will be closed for the Colon Night Market at 6:30 p.m. The night market will be in place until Oct. 20.
