Cesafi volleyball battles resume today at Aznar

After a long hiatus, Cebu’s collegiate volleyball heroes return to the floor as the defending champions Southwestern University Cobras (1-0) take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers (1-1) in today’s resumption of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s volleyball tournament at the Aznar Coliseum.

Earlier this season, tournament director Ryan Aznar cancelled all the games due to the unavailability of venues. But with the problem already addressed, volleyball enthusiasts can expect bruising volleyball action again.

Southwestern University Cobras displayed their championship pedigree in their opening game by crushing the University of Cebu Webmasters, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16.

SWU Coach Dave Arreza told CDN that his goal this season is to replicate their title-clinching performance last year.

“Actually, ang akong aim this season kay hopefully makuha namo usab ang championship,” Arreza said.

Still in the men’s division, the University of San Jose-Recoletos Spiking Jaguars (2-0) will look to secure the solo lead in the standings as they go head-to-head with the winless University of Cebu

Webmasters (0-2) while the University of the Visayas Green Lancers (1-0) gun for their second victory against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats (0-2).

In women’s action, the University of San Carlos Lady Warriors (1-1) hopes to get above .500 as they come to blows with the University of Southern Philippines Lady Panthers (1-1).

The Lady Warriors and the Lady Panthers hope to continue their winning momentum after notching their first win against the University of Cebu Webmasters and the Cebu Doctors University White Stallions, respectively.
