SWU offers catch-up program for college

September 21,2015 - 04:19 PM

High school graduates who failed to enroll in the first semester can still enter college at the Southwestern University starting this second semester.

Dr. Jose Gatino Nacario, SWU vice president for academic affairs, said in a statement that enrollment for the second semester starts on Oct. 1.

Since there will be no college offerings in June 2016 with the implementation of the Senior High School (SHS) Tracks and Strands under the K-12 program, students who wish to catch up will have the last chance to enroll in college this second semester.

Otherwise, they will have to wait two more years before they can enter college.

At the same time, he said the school is preparing to offer Grade 11. The school expects the Department of Education to issue a permit for the SHS Tracks and Strands soon.

Dr. Nacario said school registrar Dr. Angelita B. Canene had to learn the new system in determining course offerings intended for off-semester students without affecting the regular curricular offerings.

Off-semester students will be allowed to enroll in three more subjects in summer next year so they will become regular students by the first semester of school year 2016-2017.

A different, more customer-friendly and hassle-free enrollment process awaits students through the “One Stop Shop” enrollment at the lobby of the Medicine Building.

SWU is known for medical and para-medical programs, but it also offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology, Political Science, Biology, Social Work as well as Bachelor of Arts degrees in English & Communication (formerly MassCom), Elementary Education, and Secondary Education major in English, Biology and MAPEH.

Two SWU graduates, Rozelle C. Gulfan and Dr. Krystal Gayle E. Basilla, recently placed second in the Social Workers and Veterinarians licensure examinations, respectively.

“These are just concrete evidences of the school’s direction of continuously improving quality in both paramedical and non-paramedical programs,” Nacario said.

SWU is part of the Phinma Education Network (PEN), which took control in May this year.
