Someone “leaked” information ahead of Sunday dawn’s police raid of the compound where suspected drug
lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz was staying in barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.
An investigation has been ordered by Chief Supt. Prudencio “Tom” Bañas, PRO-7 chief.
“As per report from my people on field, someone leaked the information. The suspects had knowledge of
the impending raid. I have directed my intelligence officers to look into the report. Sad to say,
there were indicators of a leak. We will know in due time who gave the information,” he told
reporters yesterday.
About 12 houses in the compound owned by Diaz were raided on the strength of search warrants.
Police found about P4 million worth of drugs, paraphernalia, guns and ammunition but Diaz and his eight
companions were nowhere around.
The compound has its own basketball court and chapel.
Senior Supt. Romeo Santander, City Intelligence Branch (CIB) chief, said his men just did their job.
“We are not under the influence of any drug lord. I can say that in front of all of you. If there are
insinuations about this, then show me and I will arrest them,” he told reporters.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the seizure of drugs and weapons showed that the raid was a success
despite the failure to arrest Diaz and his cohorts.
“I will continue to support the effort of the policemen and the city government will continue to
provide what they need,” Rama said.
