A WEAK low pressure area (LPA) may develop into a typhoon within the next 48 hours.
But there is a lesser chance it will enter the Philippines and “it will not directly affect Cebu and the rest of Visayas,” said Al Quiblat of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Mactan.
September has the most number of typhoons and rains in a year.
At least four typhoons will enter this month.
If a typhoon develops, it will enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” winds which will bring more rains, and thunder storms.
Pagasa Mactan forecast that habagat winds and rain will be experienced starting Wednesday for the next five days.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) continues to monitor the Buhisan Dam as rains are still expected in the coming days.
Charmaine Kara, MCWD’s public affair manager, said it is still possible that the Buhisan Dam will overflow if intense and heavy rains occur.
Yesterday´s production was 9,300 cubic meter.
MCWD reiterated its stand that the Cebu city government should evacuate the families living near the dam.
