ALA pugs spar vs Olympians, Nietes skeds public workout

IBF Intercontinental super bantamweight champion “Prince” Albert Pagara and IBF Youth featherweight king Mark “Magnifico’ Magsayo boosted their chances of winnng their respective fights in the upcoming Pinoy Pride 33: Philippines Versus The World after both got the rare chance of sparring against Mexican Olympians at the Wild Card Gym of coach Freddie Webb.
PP 33 will unfold on October 17 at the Stubhub Center in Carson City, California,USA.
Both ALA Boxing Gym stalwarts are making their first fight in the US and are undergoing rigid training at the famed training facility owned by Roach, a five-time Trainer of the Year.
Both boxers along with Pagara’s older brother, WBO No. 2 ranked light welterweight Jason “El Niño” Pagara (36-3, 22KOs) are reportedly nearing 100 percent of their required training.
“Having sparred with quality boxers will surely be an edge for the mentioned boxers to awe Filipino as well as American boxing fans in the US,” the ALA press desk said.
While the younger Pagara and Magsayo exchanged leathers with Mexican Olympians, Jason Pagara is scheduled to spar against his opponent’s tormentor, the undefeated Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (18-0-2, 14KOs).
Hooker beat Pagara’s PP33 opponent Santos Benavidez (25-7-2,19KOs) of Nicaragua by third round TKO last March 6 and the Filipino is hoping to gain crucial tips and tactics on how to beat the former world title challenger in their 10-round non title showdown.
ALA Boxing Gym’s veteran trainer Edito Villamor told Philboxing.com, that the three boxers are looking good in training which involves sparring, mitts, heavy bags and strength and conditioning workout under American trainer Nick Curson.
The unbeaten Albert Pagara (24-0, 17KOs) will be fighting for the vacant WBO Intercontinental junior featherweight title against another Nicaraguan William “Chirizo” Gonzales (27-5, 23KOs) while Magsayo (11-0, 9KOs) will defend his IBF Youth featherweight title against Mexican Yardley Suarez (13-0, 8KOs).
Meanwhile, longest reigning Filipino world boxing champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes who recently arrived in the US, will have a media day workout at the Fortune Gym in Los Angeles on October 3 as part of the promotional activities for PP33.
Nietes (36-1-4, 21KOs) who will headline the card, will make a mandatory defense of his crown against No. 8 ranked Juan ‘Pinky’ Alejo (21-3, 13KOs) of Mexico.
