Cesafi postpones Saturday schedule of games after receiving complaint from USJ-R
In a stunning development, the Cesafi has postponed the scheduled games for today (Saturday) after the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) cried foul over the sudden change in schedule that was conceived without their knowledge on Thursday night.
According to the revised schedule that was decided on by tournament commissioner Danny Duran and league commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors was set to play the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. while the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers were slated to face off dethroned champion Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras at 5:30 p.m.
This spontaneous revision obviously did not sit well with USJ-R, which said it will play but only at the originally agreed-upon schedule, wherein the Jaguars were to play at 5:30 p.m.
According to a source within the USJ-R camp, they reached the decision upon consultation with the school brass, led by Rev. Fr. Nestor C. Raras, OAR, the school’s sports moderator and its vice president for Student Welfare. The same source also said that USJ-R school officials have also spoken with USC’s athletic director, Fr. Adriano Ocariza, SVD, who agreed to play USJ-R at the original time.
They shared their sentiments with Tiukinhoy through a text message. In lieu of this development, Tiukinhoy postponed the games and had this to say: “Due to the text message from USJ-R and concord by Fr. Andring (Ocariza) of USC to play the original schedule of the games tomorrow as against the revised schedule made by the Commissioner for tomorrow’s games; the Commissioner deemed it appropriate to postpone the games tomorrow until the Board of Trustees decide what games should the schools play; the postponed game can be played on Sunday.”
With a myriad of possibilities stemming from the results of the remaining games, all affecting the best-of-five finals series which begins on Tuesday, this development is expected to provide more drama to an already volatile semifinal situation.
