AN 18-room hotel has opened in Oslob town in southern Cebu to serve the growing number of tourists who visit the town for its famous whalesharks and waterfalls.
Malou Abines, operations manager, said Hotel Sebastian has a dining outlet, pool, viewing deck and a private beach.
She said the hotel is about 20 minutes away from the whaleshark watching center and 10 minutes from the drop-off point to Tumalog Falls.
Since the hotel soft-opened in March, Abines said it has enjoyed an average occupancy rate of 60 percent. A lot of guests were mostly from Luzon.
“We also have a good influx of Europeans, Middle Easterners, Koreans and Americans,” she said.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) said 4,067 tourists visited Oslob from January to June this year. They accounted for less than 5 percent of the 85,343 tourists who visited Cebu for the period.
DOT regional director Rowena Montecillo said the Boljoon, Oslob, Santander and Samboan is a strong tourism cluster.
“These are the areas that are well visited by the tourists,” she said.
