SECURITY measures are all set for the second round of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Cebu, which start todays until Oct. 14 in various venues.
PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez led the pre-deployment conference held yesterday at the Cebu Parklane Hotel.
Present in the conference were several government agencies involved in securing the series of meetings to be attended by top level officials of the 21 APEC member economies.
“We’ve long been preparing for this. Hasang-hasa na ang Cebu after the longest and largest meeting, the Senior Officials Meeting 3 (SOM3), which was held in Cebu,” Marquez told reporters.
Marquez said that the level of security will be higher compared to the technical working group meeting.
“We have a scalable security template for APEC. It goes up when the ministers are involved. They have more escorts in the convoys and we’ll add close-in security,” said Marquez.
With the recent abduction of three foreigners and a Filipina in Samal Island, Marquez assured that there is enough maritime security in Central Visayas.
Chief Supt. Prudencio Banas, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said all policemen securing the meetings will be billeted at the CICC to ensure smooth delivery of meal packs.
